I think the concept of using the shoulders as an energy generator during most of the swing and through contact the resistive force in BHT is too complex for most to understand. By slotting the rear elbow and having having the lead elbow work up (less on high pitches-more on low) and the degree of rearward tilt directs the bat high/low, swinging in front addresses inside, letting the ball get deeper addresses outside pitches. These are the adjustment point 'on the fly'.
Players must understand that at the moment the arms are utilized to not only generate all the energgy in the swing AND execute the precision needed to bring the bat to the ball, that it is a losing battle.
