Linear Hitter DO rotate their shoulders!!!!!
BUT..... that is a positionary move rather than a move to generate power.
Question any Academic, and they will confirm that Linear and angular (rotation) forces cannot combine AND maintain the uniform build up of energy (speed). Accept it!

Linear a to b is definately the shortest path to the ball! Angular force is the FASTEST path to the ball.
