Sosa, and great hitters can hit the outside pitch over the left field wall if they are a little
early or they can take it over the center field wall if they are right on time. Good
mechanics can do it consistently, bad mechanics can't.

Brian,

First of all, that was not a quality swing. I'm sure that ball had topspin and carried
nowhere.

Secondly, I do know that outside pitches can be pulled for homeruns.

BUT, you are wrong in stating the same swing on the same pitch can put a ball over the
wall in center field or left field depending on the timing of the swing.

When hitters pull outside pitches and hit them hard, the distance between their body and
hands is greater than when they drive the outside pitch to the opposite field. The barrel
also slightly leads the hands at the point of contact when the outside pitch is pulled hard.

This happens when the hitter is slightly fooled and slightly off balance. The adjustment on
the fly within the swing is what produces these types of hits and homeruns, they're not
premeditated.
