help with baseball swing mechanics

Posted by: allan Wohl (docal@comcast.net) on Mon Feb 5 18:39:00 2007

Hi.....I am working with my son with his baseball swing. He attends a local baseball academy. We reproduce the drills at home.

This is what I notice. When he swings( he is righthanded), he pulls his front leg outside, and not 'towards the pitcher'. The seems to get him offbalance and he loses the rhythem and timing of his swing.

What is have tried to do to correct this is the following: I have lined up a series of boxes to his side vertically. So if he "steps out" when he swings, he will knock down all of the boxes and maybe even fall over!!

What i have seen is that within about 10 swings he is now stepping towards the pitcher, has a much better hip turn, and a more compact swing.

Does everyone agree with this approach? Any other suggestions?
