Re: Big Barrel vs Std Barrel Bat

It depends. Using Jack's CHP my 10 year old has brought his swing speed to 65 MPH with a 17.5oz 31 inch DeMarini Vexxum. When he goes to his 20oz 29 inch F2 his speed is about 59 MPH. Kinetic energy is 1/2Mass*Velocity2 therefore Vexum=36968, F2=34810, thus the Vexum provides more potential energy. Barrels are both 2-1/4 inch per his league requirements. Bigger barrel = greater gear effect, which I would have to believe is usually beneficial. In short speed is king when it comes to power, and a lighter bat often equates to a quicker bat, and more swing speed, both good things.
