I think the fence drill helps eliminate casting the barrel or could act as a preventive measure. It teaches the hitter to not drop the back forearm too early (Jack makes reference to this as being a no no). I think it trains the lower body to get its' act together and lead the way. But has anyone ever wondered if it may be creating front shoulder fly away? We don't use it much any more but we do at times. What has always bugged me is that in Dusty Baker's book, one of the instructors said it was his "personal favorite" I've always thought I must be missing something here. Decent drill maybe, any more than that and my ideas about the swing are all washed up.
