Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Power loss. Hands too far forward, bat lagging
I watched the two videos and have the following comments: Your son is not loading before he swings. Jack talks about hiding the hands from the pitcher and the turning of the lead shoulder inward. Your Son's hands start very high and he really does not drop them into the slot. The hands are shoulder high or below the shoulder when you launch the rotational swing. He needs to work on loading and getting to the PLP. The bat needs to move rearward and this is difficult for a player with a strong top hand which forces the bat to stay verticle before they launch. In the rotational swing, the front shoulder moves first and goes straight back as if a rubber band was nailed to the shoulder and then a wall behind the batter. The band pulls the shoulder back and around. The hand path is circular. The front shoulder ends up back by the catcher at the end of the swing. The hands do nothing. They are being pulled around by the fixed front arm and the front side of the swing. As far as a hook-in-the-hand-path, he needs to work on that. Use the front foreare as a rudder which moves up and down depending on where the ball is to help get the bat on plane. Remember once the front foot is planted there is no forward movement -- rotatate as hard as you can while keeping balance in the swing. Just some observations on the two swings I saw. Send Jack a video from the front and side of your son's swing and he will give you an exceptional evaluation and using MLB players show your son his swing against their swing. It is well worth the small amount of money he charges for the evaluation.
