Re: Wailing on heavy bag.

>My son has used the heavy bag for two years and it works. Make sure you do it right and don't just wail on the bag. The idea is not to hit it as hard as you can but to get to the perfect contact position and to generate bat speed before contact. If you do that, you will see improvement in your hitting. It teaches muscle memory but not sure if it builds muscles. My son has a work out program for the physical development and uses the bag to teach muscle memory and all the other techniques associated with the rotational swing. I have also taken video pictures of his swing on the heavy bag to try and pick out the flaws and allow him to see his swing in motion. We use both a wooden bat and an aluminum bat to hit the bag. We don't use a heavy bat. We use his game bat. My son is not a switch hitter so we only hit from one side. The heavy bag is one of the best kept secrets and my eyes were opened when I watched Jack's Final Arch video. On camp visits to numerous colleges we were not surprised when we saw heavy bags hanging in the hitting cages.
