I believe the top hand does not play a major role in batspeed, even though it is important to be full body strong. The reason why is that I took batting practice with a cast on a broken finger on my top hand and was still getting distance on the swing.

I believe more of the batspeed effect in the dominant hand is a by product of the back leg and the back shoulder operating in unison. They apply the ummmph in the swing.
