Re: popping up

Posted by: Jeff () on Sat Oct 13 01:00:49 2001

I beleive my son (17 yrs old) has a fundamentally strong swing. He does go through spells where he pops a lot of balls up. ( infield , shallow outfield ) I can not see what is causing this. Any suggestions what to look for, I do not want to make any major swing changes. I would like to have your thoughts.

Shallow popups are usually caused by a collapsed backside, inwhich the hitter is overloading on his back leg. Remember that hitter should stride onto a well flexed front legs, try to get him to keep his shoulders level and drive through the ball. Also popups can be caused by jerky movements with the arms, the arms should remained relaxed during the swing, and remember in the rotational method of hitting the shoulder accelerates the bat, that is why Jack reccomends a fairly straight lead arm while your hips and shoulders start your swing, not your arms. I hope this can help you a little
