Re: Bat sizing

My first piece of advice to you is to insure your son is utilizing and executing the Rotational style flawlessly. Because this technique is all about generating the speed needed to get that bat around and through the path of the ball (notice no mention of the strike zone).
Basically, charts are a good source for referencing what most are using according to their build. But my main question is, are those batters using rotational mechanics in their swing?
Going up to 34" isn't a drastic change, get him swinging at some tossed balls. Tee-work as well. NO CAGES! See if he can isolate that rotating of the body to accomodate the heavier bat before he attempts to hit any ball being thrown from the mound or at the cages. Every batter's instinct is to hit the cover off the ball from the mound or at the cages. This will not be good for his timing or development when changing bat size. Get the motion down first.
