Hi

Having it flat at launch was the point unless I missed the point. A hitter could certainly leave the bat resting on the shoulder and as part of the pre-swing motion move it to the launch position. The barrel should generally not be flat at the moment the swing starts and video clips will bear that out in the great majority of pro hitters. To do so (flaten barrel) as a routine would make it difficult to swing at mid to low strikes.

I will post a link for the swings of Alomar and Ripken soon so we can talk more. Let's have respect for each others views. Discussions like these don't need to be so negative. I learn something everyday.
