Hi Guru

I know this is directed at Jack but you are correct in keeping the front foot closed will help in keeping in the front shoulder. When the foot opens up prematurely the front hip flys open (goes towards the shortstop for a RH batter) and this inturn takes the front shoulder there too. The axis of rotation is now not centered around your spine but is forced out and away from the spine creating a swing that is now going the direction of your front hip. The rotation is not more of an oval shape then a circle and the top of the oval is in the direction of your initial hip direction.
