feet movement during pitch

Posted by: blue7 () on Tue May 18 17:35:54 2010

I am looking for a bit on information to help cure something that has recently popped up in my sons hitting style.

He is only through his 2nd year and everything was moving along well. His mechanics look pretty good and he has been putting the bat on the ball with some velocity (even last year) All of a sudden about halfway through this season, he has picked up a bad habit of moving his feet during the pitchers windup. I call it happy feet because he does a little hop then swings and it is costing him power for sure. He never did this before and it only began recently.

I am simply wondering on how to cure it...I was able to get it to happen less (see below) but do not want to mess up anything that he is doing correctly. Not to mention he never does this during BP or any type of practice scenario...only during the live game and never anywhere else.

Here are two video examples of what he is doing, and then a 3rd below showing what i did after to try and fix it with the results.

Thank you to anyone who can offer any advice on this matter, it is killing us both on how to fix it and making him very angry.

It is almost like he needs some sort of mental trick or tip to get it to stop.

We decided to get rid of the slight lean to the right as shown in the video and move his feet a bit further apart. We also though he should do something before the pitcher was in set position to help with this (therefore the bat movement) It decreased a bit but still exists. In the video below, the 3rd one, it is not as bad and the hit was in the gap to left center but I deem it was all arms and still has a loss of power.

Thank you again to anyone with any advice, it is appreciated greatly.
