Mark: 1) if you arent OAR LOCKING in your hands then you are producing LINEAR hand and arm movement!
>
> 2) Linear hand movement is any hand movement that pushes the hands away from the Oar locked position or OUT of the Oar locked position as described and shown in the video when Jack tapes up up student with duct tape. Linear body movement is any movement back or forward that is NOT movement around a stationary axis. The more linear movement you have the more it lessens the force of the violent TWIST around the stationary axis. Test it: lunge forward.. weight on the front leg and then see how far you can rotate as compared to doing so in a stationary position.

Of course what happens after launch as far as torso movement is the key.

I'm sorry I thought tht was commonly understood on here. I may be dragging that over here from a fastpitch discussion board I frequent where Jack's theories as relates to fastpitch are a common discussion topic.

>
> 4) Mark you totally misunderstood the purpose of the challenge! I was attempting to show that the mechanics prescribed provide NO linear hand movement. No I didnt tape my son up when I first tried the system. Yes, I say that I want some linear movement whether it is hands OR arms OR body in order to make contact MORE likely. The weight shift theory of hitting is the BEST for making basic contact but severely reduces power. The weight shift theory of hitting is a LINEAR movement theory.

> 5) I wasnt going to handicap the batter by forcing him/her to hit out of a chair hence the comment about linear body movement. Do you understand from the tape WHY the hitter was sitting in the chair and not standing? Jack was promoting PURE & UNADULTERATED movement around a stationary axis. He knows that if you allow the hitter to stand he/she will WANT to make some type of linear movement.. it is the body's natural tendency.
>
> My position on this is simple. I have said it before and will say it again: Rotational mechanics maximize power, ie bat speed. Linear mechanics maximize contact possibilities... just look at the bunt. The type of hitter one wants to be should be based on their natural tendencies. It may be possible for a hitter to be 99% rotation and 1% linear and make it to the show... you ahd better be going yard a BUNCH though. If you are 99% linear and 1 % rotation then you better be a consistant 300+ hitter because you will hit few homers. You also better be good with the glove and NOT be playing a traditionally power position like first base. Look at this as a continuam with linear on one end and rotation on the other. There is a place along that line for every hitter. I just dont believe that you can avoid linear movement totally, in other words be 100% rotation and make enough consistant contact to be successfull. I was and am willing to be proven wrong.

So it really come down to a question of "can you hit for average with pure Mankin rotational mechanics"?

> EVERYONE on this baord needs to understand 2 very important things. I have no intention or desire to destroy jack's theories. His work on rotation was and is grounbreaking. I came here to get questions answered. The FIRST responses to my questions called me ARROGANT and IMPATIENT another called me WEAK and that I living through my son and that I shouldn't ask for a money back guarantee on his life. HATEFULL,UGLY and HARMFULL comments. Sorry I dont yip and run away with my tail tucked between my legs. If I offended anyone here then I am sorry. NOBODY can expect me to buy into a system by FAITH when it concerns MY CHILD! His hand eye coordination is simply incredible. He has POSSIBILITIES and POTENTIAL. I thought enough of Jack's theories to spend forty dollars and buy the tape. I deserve to have REASONABLE questions answered. I DESERVE NOT to be attacked personally and when I am attacked FIRST and it is PERSONAL I DESERVE the courtesy of having those comments deleted. To expect me to sheepishly turn away when attacked is at odds with reasonableness.

I hear you talking, but my first impression is of someone with a short fuse, a ballistic temper and a machine gun first ask questions later tendency. In short, the sort of confrontational personality that I would look for if I were hiring a lawyer for a bitter dispute. Not meant as an insult and likely a wrong description of you. Just the way you came across IMO. Hope to see myself proven wrong.

Mark H.
