Both techniques are valid. I doubt by the time a talented ballplayer reaches high school he will have been ruined by learning the "wrong" way. Natural talent and physical size will prevail. My 11 yr old son sees a coach who sounds a lot like South. He's doing just fine. How he's doing in 5 years I can only wait.
