foot angeled in, how can that work!

I don't understand how Louis Gonzalez is able to turn his foot in and still hit for so much power! Doesn't it cut down on how much he can rotate with his hips?

Also, there was a re-broadcast of the homerun derby today, I'm pretty sure that he was rotating his hips first, and bringing his back foot for the ride. Which is correct, back foot first or hips/trunk first?
