rotational mechanics

Hi,
Can someone please explain the difference between rotational mechanics and linear mechanics. I think i know hot to apply top hand torque, (don't you pull top hand back toward catcher to load up?) but could someone explain bottom hand torque. Also, does the video help me clearly understand this concepts? Thanks a lot.
