torque question-need answer

Can someone-prefarably Jack, or someone who knows what they are doing-can someone please clarify what, how and when to apply torque? I especially need to know HOW! After I'm given a clear definition, maybe I can find out what I'm doing wrong, or if I'm doing it right, just at the wrong time???!!!!
