hi frustrated dad your sons slow bat speed could be for many different reasons but you mention that he kills the ball in the batting cage up close and at fast speeds. this might be the problem the high speeds up close might be traing him to jump at the ball
65mph at 3o ft comes to the plae in less time then 95 mph at 60 ft, does. For a batter to hit the ball hard he must bring the bat back take a short stride foward get his front foot down and established ,while his hands and the bat are still back from this postion he can wait for the ball to come into the hitting area and take a aggressive swing.if the batter brings his hands foward as he strides he will not be able to generate any bat speed , good luck hitting sucessfully is one of the hardest things to do in all of sports
