Jack and Tony-

Very keen observations !

My thinking is that it is OK for the lead arm to straighten or lengthen during "initiation" because this is before you have to have the CHP/connection to rotation. Connection is being finalized at this point while the body is finishing it's coil/load.I think of this as finalizing the setting of the swing radius.

I think of this as just under 2 frames of "drop and tilt" at "initiation" creating "xfactor stretch" (golf term for last quick coil/stretch of torso to permit most efficient driving of connected shoulder link by uncoiling/unloading), then the lead arm must not lengthen for the last 3 1/2 or so frames before contact (30 frames persecond).

I agree with Tony's descripiton that the loss of chp by lead arm extension (lengthening of swing radius) means that the shoulders stop rotating and pull off the ball rather than continuing to rotate/drive the bathead by the rotational component of the body which means the bat is "dragging" or moving too much by translation rather than rotation.
