Re: Re: Hitting Patterns

Jimmy,

I am by no means a expert, but with a 10 year old myself I got very frustrated with both the lack of good coaching and overemphasis on teaching bad habits. As a result I go to every coaching clinic I can find and read what I can. Though there is a lot of differing info you can find a lot of similarities in the message as well as what good hitters do.
Hitting the ball to the right is probably a direct result of his getting to far onto the front side. He is going forward at the same time that the ball is coming at him. This esentially increases the speed of the pitch an causes him to be late. Contact comes with the range of the body instead of out in front of it. The best correction I have found here is practice off of the tee. Set the ball way out front. It will be awkward but he will get the idea. Then progress to soft toss, then pitching and back again as necessary. It may take a while, but that's what the summer and winter are for. Skillbuilding!

Mike
