Hi JAC,

The great Barry Bonds has just broken the Babe's record, and will likely sail past Aaron's. Taking steroids, IMO, does not necessarily make one great--one has to harness that strength through skill.

I disagree with the negative publicity steroids users are getting for two reasons:

1) While the law forbids using steroids in the US, it is not illegal to have it in your system. There are parts of the world where steroids are legal.

2) Before the steroid law was passed in baseball, players were allowed to take them. Judging the past by current standards is a classic case of ex post facto jurisdiction (e.g., charging one with a crime, such as possession of alcohol, during the prohibition period for possession liquor during an earlier period when liquor was legal).

3) Barry has not been charged with steroid use as of yet; in this country, we are innocent until proven guilty.

For these two reasons, and many others, I continue to support the notion that Barry Bonds has the best mechanics (and will have the best home run record) in the game.

Best,
BHL

P.S. Barry had HOF numbers before he allegedly used steroids.
