What means something to one, could mean something else to another. Basically, whoever told you son that should explain it to you and your son in a way that is clear to both of you. Many instructors do not use the correct terms to describe what they want. So feel free to ask the coach/opinion giver what he wants.

But in general to much top hand means the hitter is rolling his wrists prematurely or hooking the ball too much. So the coach may want your soon to use more of his top hand in an effort to drive the ball. (The top hand is the power hand.)
