> Does anybody have any tips and/or drills to correct a late swing. My boy, who is almost 11, has always swung late. He has a nice quick swing but is always behind the ball, when he connects it almost always a ground ball to the right side or many times a foul ball to the right. I have spoke to him about picking up where the ball is coming from and also where he should be making contact to pull the ball. His corrected eyesight is fine.

These tips might help:

1. Have him stand deeper in the batters box

2. Have him try a lighter bat

3. Have him choke up on the bat (Barry Bonds does it/more hitters should do it)

4. Have him widen his stance a little

5. Have him to watch the pitcher's release point and follow the ball all the way to the plate

6. Take him to the cage and have him progress from the slower speeds to the faster speeds (practice, practice, practice)

7. Have him hit out of an open stance

8. Have him stand a bit closer to the plate

Good luck.
