I do the same thing and have had much success in my career (played Div. 1 in college). However, this should be something that you don't TRY to do - it should just happen because you are relaxed and your body is preparing to unleash energy (as you say, similar to weight lifting). It should not be overemphasized - a nice smooth transition should work well.
