Re: mental
> How much of hitting is actually mental. I was thinking it is probably even as mental as it is physical. You can have the best swing but if you do not know what to swing at, you wont do anything. Can someone please list the percentages of mental and physical (50% mental 50% physical). Thanks!
This is not an exact science nor a percentage breakdown for everyone. But I would say hitting is about 2/3 physical and 1/3 mental. Or put another way, getting to the major leagues is physical. Staying in the major leagues is mental. Ex. Ben Grieve probably has the height and strength of Ted Williams. But his mental side/determination with regard to baseball is not near as close to Williams. Note that the physical side deals with repetition to the extent that one is reacting as opposed to thinking. The mental side would deal more with making adjustments and having an idea of the pitcher's tendencies and the game situation.
