Re: No stride!
> My son hits from a very tall stance with his feet about shoulder width apart. He effectively transfers his weight without a stride, just a slight turn of the front foot. The closest pro that I find is Ken Griffey Jr. Coaches seem to think he needs to stride. I, however, think that most kids overstride which causes their eyes to move to a lower plane. Any thoughts?
If your son is hitting effectively his way, more power to him. At one time especially during Ken Griffey Jr.'s first homerun derby victory at allstar break, he was considered to have the best rotational swing from which to hit a homerun. He was also considered to be the best player/hitter in baseball during the later 80's and early 90's (even ahead of Barry Bonds).
The overstride you speak of is often a consequence of not timing the pitch correctly or starting the swing process to early.
