I'm looking to get a bat so I could play recreationally. I played little league when I was younger so I'm trying to get back into playing some baseball.

They could be right. But with the ones I mentioned, you can always choke up. And for some reason choking up helps a lot of hitters make better contact (Barry Bonds, Ted Williams and Don Mattingly on occasion.) If a lot of hitters could get over the machoness of not choking up they could increase their chances of making better contact. I would suggest trying both methods.
