Re: Off Topic - Mechanics of Throwing

Posted by: Major Dan (markj89@charter.net) on Tue Apr 3 14:34:50 2001

Hi, sorry about the question. I am looking for a video that helps teach proper mechanics of throwing and especially increasing arm strength. This is not for pitching but infield and outfield. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have noticed a rise in sore arms and rotator cuff problems over the last 4 years, in Fast Pitch softball. Thanks

Dave -
There are a number of videos that deal with pitching (and thus throwing mechanics). Tom Emanski has a Defensive Drills video that deals with basic throwing mechanics and throwing in the field.
However, I don't know of anything like what you are asking.
If you go to Setpro's pitching forum, there is a lot of information about developing proper technique AND maximum velocity. Use of overload and overspeed training is part of this.
My daughter plays fastpitch softball. Her overhand throw with a softball went from low 40's MPH to 55 MPH this winter using the radar gun, overload and overspeed training.
Combine this with plymetrics, weight training, flexible tubing, rotator cuff exercises, etc. and Setpro may have all the information you need. But you'll have to pour through a lot of threads to ferret it all out. Well worth it though.
Hope that helps.
