Heavy bats, to a certain degree, increases batted ball velocity. However, this theory has a flaw. A heavy bat may increase batted ball velocity, it also is much more difficult to control the swing, conversely . The difference of a ball batted off a 40 oz bat and a 32 oz bat is only a 5% increase. But, if you take into account the ability to react, rather then having to swing much earlier, a 32 oz bat more then makes up for lost BBV.
