Here is a picture of the launch position. This should be how the arms are setup at toe touch, or even prior. Notice the hands are at the back shoulder and not above.

I should add that your 6 year old is at that stage where he let the barrel fall behind him, leads with the back elbow, and then goes to the ball. It's just something young hitters do in their swings.
