Mental Approach

Posted by: Andrew (drog29@aim.com) on Wed Dec 28 13:24:23 2005

I have spent the last four months developing the concepts of torque and rotational mechanis into my swing. I feel I am getting a pretty good handle on when I make a fast/powerful swing vs. when my rotational mechanics break down. I am even beginning to apply the mechanics of lining up the arc of my swing to the pitch location. In others words, on an outside pitch I start the arc of my swing slightly earlier and wider than a pitch down the middle. My question is regarding the mental approach to the at bat. I have heard to look for certain locations, and I have heard to look for a particular pitch. It seems to me that having an idea of location would be easier than going up and looking for a fastball no matter where it is pitched. If a pitcher is throwing 90+, it seems to me that the strike zone is too big and the reaction time too short to react to a fastball in any location. Does anybody have any thoughts?
