Re: back arm at launch

Dougd-

I think the shoulder/arm action basically starts and proceeds the same way for every full swing up to a point where the adjustment for the particualr pitch becomes possible as location is recognized.

There can be some earlier difference in anticipating in/out and up/down. Hands will be higher if looking for high ball,I think this is primarily the job of am/scap action that controls top hand position.

Swing radius will be longer if looking outside/letting ball get deep as this permits the standard/generic loading sequence to proceeed further before launch interrupts this. As this sequence proceeds, one result is that the direction of pull of "THT" migrsates as described by Jack. A later interruption by launch means a longer swing radius and a higher load/resistance to rotation. Also the back elbow tends to get more away fromt the side and the hands are "hidden" more.

The inside/out swing radius adjustment is what primarily varies how much the hands are hidden and comes before the up/down/hand height shoulder"tilt" adjustment. For a given hitter, outside/long swing radius, hands will hide more and back elbow will start down later and more away from side.
