Hitting
Found this site a few days ago. Earmarked it until I could find the time to see what you got. I'm glad I did.
Name's Barry, and I live in rural Vermont. I have been coaching Little League and Babe Ruth for about 7 years now. Have always prided myself on an ability to take a player and make him better, regardless of skill level. I've studied the game for many years. Baseball is big in my family.
I have a son, (Sam), that lives the sport, just like I did. I have a 70' batting cage, and an Atec Casey Pro pitching machine in my back yard. For the last couple of years we've been working on switch hitting. He just turned 15 a few days ago, and this Summer during the babe ruth season he started switch hitting full time. Mediocre results, but I told him to expect that.
He's got quick wrists and hands, but I've been working on trying to increase bat speed since the season's ended. I did this by placing an L-screen about 25 feet from the plate in the cage, and pitching at a pretty good speed. He was getting around on it pretty good, but it was difficult to know if I was improving his bat speed or not. So I went searching the net.
I've read your write up on the "rotational swing". I grabbed a bat and tried it myself. I can see how this would work. We work out in the cage almost every night after work and school. Tonight we're going to start work on the rotational swing. I have a feeling it's going to take some getting used to. It's definitely a different feel.
Any idea on a time frame to become comfortable with it? Roughly that is.
Many thanks for sharing your tireless research. I'm looking forward to seeing what results it brings.
Barry
