Hi Dougdinger

The bat rotates through about 180 degrees from initiation to contact. The lag position is when the bat is roughly pointing at the catcher – about 90 degrees from contact. I would assume it is referred to the “lag position” because with linear mechanics, the bat-head is lagging behind the hands during much of their extension.
