John, by "dropping out of the swing plane" I mean exactly as you say. The bat head must be raised to hit the ball. This issue is more pronounced on lower pitches.

My son is 13 and is fairly strong for his size, though he is a small kid (5' 1" and 100 lbs). He strides well before he starts his swing. He may need to be more agressive with his swing and use more of his lead side (rotation) to generate bat speed.
