holding ur hands high.

Recently, I moved my hands in my hitting stance to a position high above my head. (think Jason Varitek, or maybe Craig Counsel.) This helped me greatly in getting better batspeed, not over-extending my arms (staying inside the ball, or "putting the bat on the ball.) However, sometimes when i become hesitant, i drive the ball into the ground due to the angle of the swing. Also, i get off-balance easily. However, when i'm relaxed and confident, i drive the ball very well.

Does anyone have any advice for this type of swing, such as how far apart my feet should be, or how i should start a momentum transfer (what type of step?) Any help is appreciated. thanks.
