Jerry Kendall, College Hall of Fame coach, formerly of Arizona U., use to advocate a soft toe touch. Epstein, for reasons I can't remember is opposed to this cue. Perhaps it has something to do with getting the front heel down quickly to create frontside torque.
In any event, I believe it would be very helpful to concentrate on ballance. The late great golfer Ben Hogan was very wary of putting too much weight out toward the balls of the feet. At the same time he believed there should be a little bit of sit down weight on the rear end.
I think I would test this before fooling around with the soft toe touch.
