There are several reasons for fouling the ball straight back. I would evaluate her swing and find where she is dropping the bat head. This is probably the reason for not hitting the ball square. It will cause her to work the head at too steep of an angle upward.

Check the beginning of the swing and her back shoulder. If it dips and the bat head drops, this is the problem. Work on a tee to correct it. It won't do any good to yell it to her during a game. hitting is a confidence skill. The better you think you are the better you are.

Work in practice.
