The shoulders and armpits are very close to each other. The bottom of the shoulder would be the armpit. If you place your hands at the top of the shoulder, your hands are too high; this will simply delay your hands getting to the hitting plane. Stay with the armpit and if your coach says something let him know you feel more comfortable with your hand nearer the bottom of your shoulder rather than the top.
