If the back elbow remains "in the slot," how is it possible for the top hand to "push"? <<<

If the batter keeps his back-elbow back at his side (in the slot), the rotation of the body will drive the top-hand around toward the pitcher with about the same force as the bottom-hand is being pulled rearward. – Therefore, the back-arm need not extend out of the “L” position for the top-hand to be driven forward..
