Re: Drills

Can anyone recommend several drills that force you to perform what is emphasized on this site?

If you haven't done so already, I would HIGHLY recommend buying the video tape. Just to explain a few drills would not be beneficial, as there is room for error in a written and/or oral explanation. I found that the video tape contains a thorough and logical explanation as to why and how the method works, which I believe is extremely important to be able to effectively teach it.

I purchased the tape a short time ago, and have been teaching my son, as well as the rest of a 10&U team. We have primarily been using a `hit bag' which is tied to a light pole. As stated in the video, using a bag is the best way to monitor the mechanics of the swing, because what happens after the `hit' is not as important as what happens before. Using the bag enables both the hitter and the coach to be able to see even minor problems in the form up to the point of contact.

Though we are currently only working on the `basics' of the swing, (no top hand or bottom hand torque yet), we have already seen definate improvements in all the hitters, as muscle memory is seen in their hitting form at the plate.
