Slumping Hitter

My son has recently recieved a -3 in preparation for the move to high school ball. He uses this bat in all-star practice he was hitting well then after his coach told him to try to swing harder since he one of the lone power hitters on the team. Since that point I have noticed he is swinging harder than he normally does and hasn't been hitting the ball that well. Do you think he should go back to using his -8.5 bat where he wasn't hitting it as good and since has very good bat speed on the -3 he might be ahead of the ball thus pulling his head out and worsen the ordeal. Or should he just continue using his -3 and go back to the way he was hitting before the coach told him to swing harder. Or should he increase his power by becoming more of a "body" hitter and try to use every muscle that he has.
