>>> Jack , I'm trying to emulate the swing you are describing. How about this?Pick up a bat to stance position , pull back hands to catcher during inward turn, 'somewhat' locking rear arm to slot and L front arm. Now at forward launch only let shoulders rotate,, hips and legs follow this should pull slotted and 'set' arms around in circular movement. Shoulders pull, then torso hips legs in rapid if not simultainious progression? Is this close? Thanks <<<

Hi Coach Dad

You are right in thinking it is the rotation of the shoulders that swing (or fling) the hands around the swing plane. But keep in mind that a strong shoulder rotation is the results of good lower body mechanics rather shoulder rotation driving the lower body. One cue I find very productive is “lead-shoulder pulling rearward at contact” where the batter uses the extension of the lead-leg to drive the front hip rearward at contact.
