As your slapper faces higher level pitchers she will see lots of screwballs and fastballs on the outside corner. The pitcher is attempting to create precisely the problem your slapper is experiencing.

First, make sure her stance is neutral, close to the plate and her footwork is taking her directly toward the pitcher and not toward first base. Any movement toward first base should come only after contact is made. Next, she should be positioned in the box so her left foot comes down directly on the front line of the box as she is making contact with the ball. This will help her make contact in the early stages of the ball’s break and shortens the distance she has to run to first. Many good slappers often are out of the box when they make contact. Though illegal, it is almost never called. Finally, make sure her bat is long enough.
