John,

I'm not saying that the shoulders and arms don't move. I don't think you are understanding me. If you try to adjust plane with the shoulders or the arms for that matter it will be to slow. The hands are the only part of your body in contact with the bat. Your hands are not set up to adjust to shoulder movement but your shoulders and the rest of the body is programmed to adjust to what the hands are doing, to aid in the task at hand. Lets say you are set to hit a fast ball waist high middle of plate and the ball starts to move down and away slighty, if you allow the hands to take the bat to the ball then the rest of the body will respond appropriately. Take the same scenerio and try to adjust by tilting the shoulders the hands do not have to adjust to the shoulder tilt and tilting the shoulders would take longer then allowing the hands to make the adjustment.

IMO the whole body will work to aid the hands to perform the task at hand. The hands do not work to aid the rest of the body.
