The way I see it, yes and no. I'm not an expert but linear mechanics are what little league coaches are teaching all of thier hitters. Here is the problem, they don't work once you get tall enough to ride roller coasters. By that, I mean that when kids grow up into thier teens rotatinoal mechanics seem to better suit everyone. Why settle for a shorter, less hard, less square hit with linear? Harder hits can be achieved by matching the trajectory of the ball rather than slicing it. Top hand torque is also something that just takes practice, and when you've practiced it enough, your hitting will reach a whole new level.
