Arms out at Contact

Jack, my son has lost some consistency and power lately at the plate. I have video taped several swings and see three things: 1. At launch (or load) he seems to reaching straight back a long way; more than the normal separation he has had in the past; 2. At contact there seems to be alot of space between his arms and torso;

I posted the above without asking the question: Do you think there is likely some connection between the reaching back and the arms so far out at contact? Could his load be causing his hand path to sraighten out causing him to loose connection with his torso as it rotates. The confusing thing is he seems to be staying well behind his front side as he rotates his shoulders and hips. In other words, his body appears to be moving in a rotational manner.
