Hi Scott:

I understand the debating tactic of "extrapolation to the extreme case", but it only works when one stays within the given parameters. I never got the idea that Jack (or others) were ever talking about just raw, 'pure', maximal bat speed per se, but endeavor to illuminate some mechanics that bear upon maximizing bat speed within the parameters of hitting a pitched baseball (while staying in the batter's box). I don't know that hitters using relatively "tighter" or "longer" ellipses, based upon a hitter's 'type', necessarily negates what Jack illustrates. I take it as a positive - that the principles apply across a range of types and that they can accomodate a variety of individual assets and limitations.
